Benchmark indices saw a soft start on Monday as metal shares felt the heat, faced with US President Donald Trump's threat to impose duties on steel and aluminium import.
The BSE Sensex fell 221.60 points, or 0.65 per cent, to 33,825.34. The Nifty50 was down 77.40 points, or 0.74 per cent, to 10,380.95. Both escaped Friday's global selloff because it was a public holiday.
The entire BSE Metal basket was in the negative. Jindal SteelBSE -4.12 % plunged 3.03 per cent. JSW Steel, HindalcoBSE -3.31 %, SAILBSE -4.51 % and NALCO all declined up to 2.85 per cent.
